Resources for parents and family members sending a camper to Camp Westminster

We hope you will find the information below useful. (Please note: Some links will take you away from this website.)

  • What is ACA and what does it mean to be accredited?
The American Camp Association (ACA) works to preserve, promote, and enhance the camp experience for children and adults. ACA Accreditation means that the camp has undergone a thorough (up to 300 standards) review of its operation from staff qualifications and training to emergency management. ACA collaborates with experts from the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Red Cross, and other youth-service agencies to assure that current practices at camp reflect the most up-to-date, research-based standards in camp operation. Camps and ACA form a partnership that promotes growth and fun in an environment committed to safety.

  • Last Child in the Woods: Saving Our Children From Nature Deficit Disorder by Richard Louv
This long-overdue book addresses the issue of a generation or more of children who simply are not outside. They are watching television, surfing the Internet or enjoying their Gameboys. This is impacting them in different ways, and here, finally is combined research discussing the effects of a lack of outdoor time!
  • The Blessing of A Skinned Knee by Wendy Mogel
Psychologist Wendy Mogel inspires each person who works with children to acknowledge the value of normalcy and to allow children to discover life for themselves!
