Brief History

| The House Four sleeping areas provide beds for eight. Mary's Retreat and Lydia's Nook each have two comfortable twin beds. Also located on the first floor is the Lumberjack's Hideout. Tucked near the kitchen, this cozy room has a daybed with a trundle. The Eagle's Nest is the only bedroom on the second floor with access to the full bath and a reading area in the upper hallway. All beds are provided with linens and full towel set. The kitchen, large and sunny, features modern amenities for your convenience. Coffee and tea service are provided. There is ample counter space and a table with seating for four. Relax in the parlor's comfortable furniture with a book or a game. A Victorian style dining room is adjacent to the parlor. This room is the main entry point to the house and offers ample space for eating and meetings. Two full bathrooms are a delightful mix of Victorian ambiance and thoroughly modern upgrades. Each bathroom has a clawfoot tub, pedestal sink, toilet and shower. There is one bathroom on each floor. A first floor laundry room includes a washer and dryer, as well as a door to the backyard. Exit to a private deck and recline in a lounge chair as you enjoy the spacious backyard. Great to view the vegetable garden in progress, or plenty of room to build a whole family of snow people! Parking is available in front or on the west side of Holland House. |

Explore the Area Several eateries are within walking distance and the Holland House is less than one mile from gas stations, grocery store, office supply and churches. The beauty and vitality of the Higgins Lake area can be experienced on many levels- depending on the season of your visit! Spring, summer and fall bring opportunities to hike at the Marguerite Gahagan Nature Preserve just down the road or drive a short distance to the Hartwick Pines State Park. Fishing is available in the Au Sable River, on Higgins Lake, or (especially fun for children) view 45,000 trout at the Grayling Fish Hatchery. The Au Sable River is a stone's throw from Holland House and canoeing, kayaking or tubing down this lazy river is a must! Experience the past at Wellington Farm where it is always 1932. Winter presents a wonderful blanket of deep snow and ice to this area. Ice-fishing on Higgins Lake, cross-country skiing and snowmobiling are all popular pasttimes in northern Michigan. Or just stay at the Holland House and play in the snow in the backyard!
