Meet the Director:

Suzanne Getz Bates is the director of Camp Westminster on Higgins Lake, a ministry of Westminster Church of Detroit since 1925. After graduating from The College of Wooster in Wooster, Ohio with a BA in psychology she joined the National Teacher Corps and served in Highlands, NC while earning a M.A. Ed in Elementary Education from Western Carolina University. After moving to Bethlehem, PA she developed curriculum, taught elementary school, Sunday School and teacher training classes.
Suzanne served as a program and site consultant at several Presbyterian camps beginning in 1982. She has been on the staff of Westminster Church of Detroit and Director of Camp Westminster since 1995. Serving as president of the
Presbyterian Church Camp and Conference Associates (PCCCA) from 1990-1994, she coordinated executive meetings, national conferences and the General Assembly exhibit for camp and conference centers.
Suzanne currently represents the Presbyterian Church (PCUSA)
on the National Council of Churches Committee on Outdoor Ministry. She is on the writing team that develops the interfaith curriculum for camp and conference ministries. She is also serving on the Board of PCCCA.  Email: suzanne@campwestminster.com

Meet the Director of Development:

jim.jpgJim Bates is responsible for making it possible for youngsters of all ages to have a fabulous Camp Westminster experience! His education includes a BA in economics from The College of Wooster in Wooster, OH and a MA Ed from Western Carolina University, NC. After teaching elementary school and directing at Camp Brainerd in Pennsylvania, he felt called to enter the camp ministry full-time. He has served as the director of several Presbyterian camp and conference centers. When he is not writing a grant or searching for the best deal on a new piece of camp equipment, he enjoys playing the bagpipes, traveling, reading the sports section and spending time with his family!  Email: jim@campwestminster.com

Meet the Assistant Director:

elise.jpgElise Russell enjoys the variety of responsibilities her position entails: updating the website, publicity, camp fairs and staff recruitment, program planning and camp store inventory. She is also one of the four women who endeavored to undertake the compilation of Camp Westminster's rich history several years ago: The Touch of Influence Camp Westminster's First 75 Years and the addendum five years later.  She really loves children and youth, nature, international cultures and serving God - all things she can do in this position! Meet the Administrative Assistant:

Nancy Gourlay Morrison (on the top bunk, priming the interior of a wakeya) was a camper at Camp Westminster a few years ago and fondly remembers her times there! So fondly, that she has returned to work in the camp office in Detroit year-round. The Camp is blessed to have Nancy's knack for completing projects, answering questions about camp from inquiring minds, and tackling any project sent her way. Email: nancy@campwestminster.com





Meet the Registrar:
Clarice "Bunny" Jackson is the sweet voice you hear when you call 313.341.8969! She is our registrar and take-care-of-it person- from filing to mailing packets to our international staff to responding to requests for more camp information.
