Sailing

US Sailing Counselor

US SailingDates: May 31, 2011- June 1, 2011
Cost: $250 (includes room and board)

Purpose: The Sailing Counselor course is a two-day course designed to prepare camp counselors and staff from community sailing and scouting programs to supervise small boat recreational sailing activities typically conducted on sheltered and protected waters. The emphasis is on safety and hands-on practice to familiarize candidates with proper terminology and boating techniques. This is not an Instructor Level Training Course.

Archery  (Note: rescheduled to June 7)

Dates: June 2, 2011 (9:00am-4:00pm)
Cost: $75 (includes lunch)
Prerequisites:

  • Basic knowledge in Archery
  • Basic experience in shooting

Purpose: To train staff in the fundamentals of Archery marksmanship. To improve and enhance the level of instruction in camp archery programs.

American Red Cross Waterfront Lifeguard

Red CrossDates: June 2, 2011 – June 4, 2011
Cost: $325 (includes room and board)
Prerequisites:

  • Minimum age 15 and strong swimmer
  • Swim Test (550 yds non-stop)
  • Retrieve 10 lb weight from 9 ft of water
  • 15-Yard Underwater Swim

Purpose: To train Lifeguards to supervise swimming and small boat activities. Successful completion fulfills the American Camp Association’s standards for supervision of swimming and boating activities. (Qualified to guard at Pool, Lake, Pond, Bay)

American Red Cross CPR/AED

Dates: June 5, 2011 (1:00pm- 6:00pm)
Cost: $50 ($25 if taken with First Aid)

Purpose: Provides participants with skills to provide care in emergencies before more skilled medical help arrives. Includes AED Training for professional rescuer.

American Red Cross First Aid

Dates: June 5, 2011 (9:00am-12:00pm)
Cost: $50

Purpose: Help candidates to be able to identify ways to prevent injury or illness and provide basic care until a victim receives professional medical help.

 

High Ropes Course Training

Dates: June 5-6, 2011

Purpose: Provide participants basic high ropes course facilitator training. Please note that the certification is good for Camp Westminster's course, but may be transferrable. Please call for more information regarding this opportunity!
